OVERVIEW
Established in 1998 and located in midtown Manhattan, Bloomsbury USA is a general interest publisher of adult and children’s books that has become known for both its high-quality fiction and non-fiction for adults and children as well as its extensive Academic publishing from the world’s most recognized experts.
POSITION
Reporting to the Group Tax Manager (GTM), the incumbent will cover tax compliance across all US territories (Federal, State & Sales), both independently and under the direction of the GTM. The individual will be tasked with improving the current processes and ensuring the accuracy of the required reporting schedule.
Additional project work may include the review and improvement of processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the sales tax registration process including the review of nexus in other states.
- Set up and maintain the Federal, State & Sales online tax accounts
- Oversee the sales tax return submissions
- Manage quarterly Federal return extension process, including payments and information gathering
- Quarterly commercial rent tax submission
- Annual reporting, including 1099, 5472, 1042, F495 Forms
- US Census Reporting
- Manage sales and state tax compliance rectifications
- Responsible for sales tax balance sheet reconciliations including reviewing and improving the existing process for sales tax balance sheet reconciliations
- Review sales tax exemption certificates and be responsible for the filing management and maintenance of the certificates to ensure compliance
- Responsible for US tax M&A integration
- Manage the possible Escheatment in California
- Work to create a detailed in-house knowledge base of US tax for reference.
- Advise on US bank postings (sales/state tax) and approve tax fee invoices including the review of fee spend.
- Any additional compliance work, including researching and reviewing possible compliance gaps.
- Analyze the expected impact on Bloomsbury of new or amended legislation
Requirements

- Advanced Excel skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience
Location
Bloomsbury has adopted a hybrid work policy comprising of two days in-office work and three days of remote work. Candidates residing in NY, NJ, or CT and within a reasonable commute, must be able to commute to Bloomsbury’s New York City office on a mutually agreed-upon schedule for in-office work. Full-time remote work is available for candidates residing in IL, FL, TX, NY, NC, CA, or VA.
